The short story The street Sweeping  Show is a complex story. Feng portrays the mayor only as a clean and organized person. The mayor reflects the National Cleanup Week as a reunion that cannot go wrong. People from every district of class had been called upon to join the National Cleanup week. The mayor is portray to have much authority and influence on the people that surround him. Feng incorporates a twist into the mayor's character in which the reader finds himself changing hi way of thinking about the mayor. In the beginning of the story the mayor acts organized and thoughtful but in reality the mayor is portrayed to be self centered as  the reader is presented with the "second face of the coin". The mayor organized as the "festival" to portray his own superiority to the other people.  The National Cleanup week was not for the purpose of cleaning but to demonstrate the distinction of beauty and power between the different social classes. The diction chosen to depict the superiority of the mayor by Feng includes "your honor" ; it is typically used to show not only respect but higher social status. The power portrayed by the mayor is a symbol of how government is of great influence to the lower classes.
